Selfie: How the West Became Self-Obsessed by Will Storr

ree

Selfie is a book that I had been postponing for a while and can’t even begin to explain how much I regret having done so. As the title conveys it talks about how the west has become self obsessed. It touches on subjects such as suicide, eating disorders, the self-esteem movement amongst others. Through psychological analysis it breaks down all aspects of these phonomenons. It is one of the best psychological books that I have read so far not only because of how packed of information it is but because as you read it truly makes you think and dwell on the topics. Reading this book, I believe is also healing, it breaks down into theories movements of, for instance, the 21st century such as the societal pressures of perfection. It is through understanding where these movements come from and how we have implemented them into our lives that one can understand how to disassociate themselves from these ideas and begin to challenge society.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

ree

Atomic Habits talks about the psychological reasoning behind habits. Why we make them, why we need them, how they play to our advantage and/or disadvantage… It is a book which helps you look at your life from outside the box, analyzing your every move and seeing and acknowledging what it is that you have to do/change/ameliorate… Through people’s real life experiences and personal accounts we learn to differentiate different types of habits and how they arise and we learn to analyze our own behaviors. Jammed with graphs and tables it is easy to understand and internalize everything you read.

Investing Explained: The Accessible Guide to Building an Investment Portfolio by Matthew Partridge

ree

Investing explained is a detailed recap of everything you need to know about investing. It covers the basics whilst also containing in-depth analysis of investment opportunities that any investor may have or seek for depending on their specific investment strategy. This book is great for people who don’t know where to start and hunt for knowledge and understanding of the investment sector. The book is divided by chapters and each chapter is then subdivided by specific questions which allows the reader to go back and re-read the key information sought out quickly. Each chapter also includes case studies where the reader is able to understand and see how the principles have been put into practice in the past. Partridge too includes relevant and recent data to illustrate which investments are potentially better and which ones the investor should probably be skeptical about given recent times.
